How Can We Stop Assaults From Being Committed Against Women?

When I read the statistics on the percentage of women that experience physical abuse or sexual abuse. The numbers were significant yet not surprising. Women in general face different risks than men regarding violence and sexual abuse. Learning about the numbers of sexual abuse in other parts of the world as well as sexual trafficking, and even murder that was mostly caused by someone who they knew was heart wrenching.  

      

When looking at the numbers in different parts of the world, it is hard to figure out how there is one right answer to stopping assaults and violence against women. In third world countries, violence amongst women is sadly part of the culture. From child marriages to genital mutilation, the answer ca varies depending on the region. In South Sudan, violence amongst women is closely related to the conflict-ridden region. In the US, dating violence, bullying, and sexual assaults in universities are common. In the Middle East, violence in the home against women is very common and unfortunately plays a major role in how violence affects children later in their life by being in a violent partnership or being the one who commits those assaults.

Globally, I think accountability among those responsible for the heinous and violent acts among women is needed. Both the government and law enforcement need to enforce strict laws that protect women and girls. There must be accountability for each country, each city and state to assure the well-being of women. I think that education is also needed so that women feel empowered to accept nothing less than mutual respect as well as to achieve self-development.

 In many countries where women are married young and less educated, there needs to be mandated education for young women and children. Education, especially in third world countries is lacking and I think that it would greatly decrease the percentages of women who are young mothers and are not empowered.

Another thing that may help in decreasing assaults and violence against women is assuring that young children are taught from an early age. If at a young age, it is taught that violence among women and each other is not right, perhaps it can change the outcome of future generations.
